DANGEROUS CHAINSAW MISTAKE
I've been clearing some land in front of my cabin. I've taken down several dozen trees and on this final day of felling, I decided to film it. I didn't set out to make a full polished episode, I just wanted some nice chainsaw action shots. I ended up making a big mistake and I had an accident while felling a tree with my chainsaw.

Building an Attached Garage/Workshop Part 2

After moving into my small cabin in the woods, I needed to build a garage and workshop. All of my tools were in storage far away and not easily accessible. I opted to build a two story attached garage and had a contractor build the shell. Then, once all of my tools were moved in, I desperately needed storage space to get the lesser used tools and lumber off the workshop floor. I built a 2nd sto...

DANGEROUSLY HUNG TREE: Felling, Bucking, Splitting, and Stacking
Просмотров 84 тыс.5 лет назад
I had a hung tree hanging over my trail. This made using the trail unsafe as the tree could break loose and fall at any time, including when i'm passing under it. In this video, I take it down with a chainsaw and buck it up, then split it, and finally stack it. Music: Ticker, by Silent Partner Twice as Hard, by The Black Crowes

Do you clean these ever?
Looks like this trial and error just leads to a lot of terror.
As many of the other comments have truth to them, I am sure they are just miserable within themselves, therefore they have to project that. I thank you for the content. I did learn some things that are useful. Therefore I did my part to repay the favor. Thanks again.
I make tin pants with pure tung oil and microcrystalline wan only . I make them in July when it’s hot out so because the tung oil cures faster that way and it cures in about a month and I don’t have to use chemicals like turpentine and other drying agents doing it this way . I cote it heavy and rub it in the fabric then use a heat gun and scrape of the excess. Then I take them to the laundry mat where they have a dryer for work only put it in for an hour, then I take then home hang them up and let it cure for a month in my shed when the weather is hot and then they are ready to wear .
Geetings from South Africa. Parifin wax 4 parts to mineral oil 2 parts. Blessings
Thanks for taking the time to create this video. I now feel confident enough to make my own for the mountain property we just bought. Thanks, man. MountainAngel new Subber
Why are they called Tin pants, when waxed pants would be closer to what they are?
Such a clear and well thought out video thanks. I think I’ll use your recipe to make a porch tarp for my bell tent.
I’m late to the comment game on this 6 year old video but you sir have exacted an understanding your application and the components comprising your product. A great video!
Awesome!!!
Thank you for this video. You have presented the subject matter very well. I need to make myself a pair of tin pants using your method.
Why not consider mineral oil rather than tung?
Greetings, my fellow cat-activated woodworker!
His recipe 15:02: 16oz Microcrystalline Wax 2oz Pure Tung Oil 6oz Tung Oil Finish 8 oz Mineral Spirits Add Microcrystalline Wax to Double boiler (179•f melting point) Prewarm pants in dryer In separate container Mix mineral spirits and Tung oil with tung oil finish Any touched surface is flammable until product cures, (smell will be gone), from days to weeks be careful. Once wax is melted add solution and let heat back up. Remove from heat but leave water in under pan to keep it warm. Stir occasionally to prevent separating. Paint it on like you mean it, you can scrape extra off later but heat gun will most likely spread it all out and help it absorb. Hang up to dry. Will take 2-4 weeks to dry. After dry use heat gun (as blow drier will not get hot enough). Melt in any excessive wax. Use dry brush to move to any dry spots. Take bondo scraper, and help all fibers to evenly float in the wax Repeat as needed
You have danger written on your forehead.....Your videos have showed the world that some people shouldn't be allowed to own a chainsaw' there's more too it than dressing up in a costume and playing lumber jack. It's been a while since you've posted any videos.... hope you're on the road to a full recovery' if not RIP.
Lotsa shiny new gear here.....lol
Omg......
Awesome tutorial brother. Thanks a lot! Good bless 🙏
Please use an electric rice cooker for melting wax and mixing it with flammables 😎👍
I wanna use these pants to the fullest, what can I do on my knees *silence* Dudes chuckling I love how we're all the same bunch of children at the end of the day.
I'm kind of surprised by the fireproofing. downside of the wax and boild linseed oil is you more or less turned the fabric into a candle. Have you tried applying this to a scrap piece of fabric and really try to light it to see if it keeps burning vs an untreated piece of the same fabric?
Secure saw with foot when starting it. Ear protection - use it. Use chain brake. Watch tip of saw in soil when buckin' log. Kick-back issue and dirt blunts chain ! Don't work under something that will kill you, bust you up, if it drops. You are in the woods alone [?] Emergency support how far away ? Chopping block wrong height for you. Axe hitting the ground after most swings - blunting/chipping edge of the axe ! You are standing too far away. Axe should be hitting the block not the ground. Appreciate we all start somewhere but live longer by taking H&S seriously. 🤙
First thing I noticed was that unsheathed hatchet ready to deliver something nasty in a slip or fall. Very dangerous.
I have that stereo/speakers set. You've had it a long time. 15 years.
The Knights of Ni and choons...great!
There are entire segments of this video that don't need to be here. And then there's "instant replay slowmo" sections from THAT that especially serve no purpose. Incredibly boring presentation of what could be fascinating. I just couldn't sit through any more of it.
great video Sir. I'm thinking about doing that to some pand and bottom shirt, and even maybe a canvas tarp. Can anyone tell me if Wax/Oil can be applied and pants that have a percentage of "elastec", they are slightly stretchy?
"...and they are real durable. Ooops, I'm scratching it..."😏
The downside to microcrystalline wax is that breathing the fumes can cause nerve damage. One of the best fine arts metal instructors at WSU had to retire do to his nerve damage. It is probably not a problem except during the manufacturing process.
My father always used tung oil
thank you so much for this informative content sir!. I usually worked with beeswax & paraffin, now i'll try the microwax. Is there anyone know any oil for tung oil alternative?, since i can't find it on my country
Glad this video popped up! Like many, Im getting more into wood projects and going to be on the smaller side so I thought pallet wood would be perfect seeings how a friend has literally hundreds of pallets I can take whenever (most if not all are pine) but had no idea about the overseas stamps and the wire holding the nails. I already grabbed about 10 so we'll see how long this process takes and see if it's even worth doing. I know this video is 7 years old but a 1x3 or 1x4 x 8 is around 6-8 bucks.
I found this very interesting. I would like to know what pants you started off wiith.
I have been looking into oilskin cloths and such. I consider this to be a very informative video. My only concern is that the wax blend is not skin safe (or Food safe). Tung oil can cause some bad reactions when the person is allergic. If I do make my own oilskin or similar product I am thinking of omitting the Tung oils and mineral spirits and using straight microcrystalline wax (and heat) to make the product water resistant. If I do decide on using Tung oil I might use a small amount (top of my head, 20% by weight).
Very informative and great video I loved the way everything was explained so well.
Honest...BUTT. Looks like a dull chain and/or very tough wood. Wedges need to be with you. Good PPE.
What about soy wax?
Tonge oil is poisonous...breathe deep.
I know that you have done some comparison of waxes. What would you say about soybean wax?Arazona desert rat
No way, I’m neither a Scientist nor a researcher and yet I also discovered that Pure Tung Oil is superior to Linseed and I use it on my axe handles. I also wondered why Linseed Oil was so prolific and came to the same conclusion. Great informative video sir.
I bought all these exact ingredients and a second-hand crackpot to do this to a hooded workvest. Wish me luck.
What brand is that?
If I was to use only tung oil finish and not use pure tung oil, would I be ruining my jacket? Having trouble sourcing the pure oil.
what you did is lip balm, for your pants use a mix of naphta and silicone.
Well , can you tell the brand of pants , Carhart , Berne ...... ??? Thanks
Just had a cherry and polar cut in my yard, thanks for this.
Love your process, excellent video. Would like to see more videos as descriptive as this.
I’m going do this with a jacket and two pairs of pants
Something worth bearing in mind, is that you can use different wax mixes, from hard & stiff, to softer more flexible, for different parts of a jacket or trousers, without losing much in the way of waterproofing. Can make quite a difference in comfort levels.
Sadly I am seeing this 4 years later… LOVE the end splitting the wood!! 😂
